30 Days of Gratitude–Day 13

As a personal challenge to be more aware of all of my blessings in life, I am writing a post about one of those blessings every day for the 30 days prior to Thanksgiving. Some will be serious. Some will be silly. But they will all mean something to me personally. I invite you to join in, in the comments, in your own writing space, or simply in your head. So often we take for granted how much we have to be thankful for. It’s good to stop, reflect, and remember.

Today I am thankful for yoga poses that I love. I wrote the other day about the poses that I hate, so I wanted to counter that with a little love.

Let’s see… some of the poses I love…pigeon, wide legged forward fold, lizard, child’s pose, and tree.

I love the stretch that comes with the first three. Especially wide legged forward fold. I could clasp opposite elbows and just hang for quite a while. It’s the best way to get my back to relax and uncrick.

Child’s pose is a great way to rest and a great way for me to connect to my breath. It’s a reset button for me. It’s like making a little cave with just me in it. I can be alone with my thoughts or alone with no thoughts. It’s a comforting posture for me.

What I love about tree is that every day is different and each side is different. Some days I can balance like a rock star, other days I’m can’t stay vertical. And sometimes my left side is better than my right, other times they’re roughly even. I also love that you can put your arms in so many different positions. I usually prefer heart center, but sometimes I’ll mix it up. I like to remind my students that every tree is unique, so we all have our own expression of tree.
