30 Days of Gratitude–Day 15

As a personal challenge to be more aware of all of my blessings in life, I am writing a post about one of those blessings every day for the 30 days prior to Thanksgiving. Some will be serious. Some will be silly. But they will all mean something to me personally. I invite you to join in, in the comments, in your own writing space, or simply in your head. So often we take for granted how much we have to be thankful for. It’s good to stop, reflect, and remember.

Today I am grateful for sore muscles because it means I challenged myself. Yesterday I taught two yoga classes and I did a short video on my own. I feel it today.

I am not trying to glorify “pain is weakness leaving your body.”

That’s absolutely not what yoga is to me.

For me, being sore like I am today reminds me that I did something kind for myself yesterday. I believe an important component of self-care is physical exercise. To be sure, I know I gained physically from the yoga I did. I also know that I gained mentally and spiritually, which are other parts of self-care and also represent what yoga means to me.

There is a huge difference between going so hard that you develop an injury and feeling a little sore from working muscles you usually don’t. I’m explicitly talking about the second type of sore. Yoga is not about pushing yourself to the point of injury.

What are you thankful for?
