30 Days of Gratitude–Day 1

As a personal challenge to be more aware of all of my blessings in life, I am writing a post about one of those blessings every day for the 30 days prior to Thanksgiving. Some will be serious. Some will be silly. But they will all mean something to me personally. I invite you to join in, in the comments, in your own writing space, or simply in your head. So often we take for granted how much we have to be thankful for. It’s good to stop, reflect, and remember.

I’m kicking off my 30 Days of Gratitude with words of appreciation for my husband, Steve. We got married in May, after four years of dating. Our entire relationship he has been so supportive of me pursuing my goals, even when those goals have changed into completely different goals.

Yes, I wore a black dress to my wedding. It’s my color.

I wouldn’t be teaching yoga right now without his support and encouragement. He has been so patient with me as I have gone on a bit of a journey to figure out what I want to do in life and how I can do it.

We laugh a lot.

We cook a lot.

We chill a lot.

And we travel whenever we can.

He has helped me find my voice and encouraged me to question things (even more than I already did), which has led to a great increase in personal boundaries and interests.

I never would have jumped off the top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas without him.

30 Days of Gratitude

I recently realized that I have been taking things in my life for granted. I received a rather big compliment the other night and I was kind of stunned that anyone would say they were jealous of any part of my life. And that’s when it hit me–while there might be some things in my life that I wish were different, I have a lot of amazing things going on. I haven’t been stopping to fully recognize all of my blessings and that made me sad.

If I’m not grateful for what I have, what makes me, what makes the universe, think that I would be grateful with more?

What you focus your mind on is what you manifest.

If you constantly think about a yellow car, you’ll notice a lot of yellow cars on the road.

And so the logic goes, if you constantly think about your blessings, you’ll notice more blessings, more things to be grateful for. By noticing and being thankful for all that what we have, we might be given more. At the very least, it will make you feel good.

November is the month we celebrate Thanksgiving in the United States. This year it falls on the 28th, which is 30 days from tomorrow. Starting tomorrow I will post every day for the next 30 days sharing someone or something in my life that I am grateful for.

Your reflections don’t all have to be big and serious. Some of mine will be on seemingly silly little things, like coffee or my favorite couch blanket. And I think that’s a good thing, to recognize the little things that make up life in addition to all of the big things.

My name is Lori Walker.

A bit about myself…

I live in Bartlesville, Oklahoma with my husband, Steve, and our cat, Joan Didion (named after one of my favorite writers). I have two step-daughters. One in college and one in high school who lives with us part-time. I am a yoga instructor and a writer. I love to cook and read in my spare time. Steve and I love traveling and I am so grateful that my job allows me the freedom to do so.

I recently completed my 200 hour teacher training online at Yoga Renew. I look forward to getting my 300 hour certification at some point. I currently teach four classes a week at our local studio and two classes a week my friend’s event venue.

I don’t really know what else to say about myself. I will certainly reveal more information about myself and my life as this blog progresses.

My yoga teaching mission is twofold. I want to provide quality classes for those in my small community. I also want to provide quality online content for anyone who is interested in incorporating a bit of yoga and mindfulness into their lives. The online content will take the form of posts about things that inspire me, tips on how to be more mindful, or points of interest in my yoga journey–or really anything else I can somehow relate to yoga. Eventually, I would love to expand into posting yoga sequences and yoga videos.
